Le Bal des Laze

It reminded me of a French song by Michel Polnareff that I always found strangely compelling, "Le Bal des Laze". It's a pretty old song (1968), but since the "story" takes place in an unprecised but older setting, it is quite intemporal.
Since it's in French, here's a summary of the lyrics : a guy (the narrator) is going to be hanged the next day, who was working in the castle of Laze, and thinks that Jane, the lord and lady's daughter, is going to miss him and "the love they used to make away from the castle". He remembers how jealous he was, being the ignored fool, while Jane danced with her boyfriend.
Tomorrow he's going to be hanged, it will only be a few lines in the newspapers, he's just a murderer.
Maybe Jane will feel a bit sad when he dies. He says that his last sentence will be so that he's pitied, as they are going to give her a new fiancé, and he won't be able to kill this one...
( Le Bal des Laze )
... Okay, I do, too, like songs about murders when they're well done.
